Port codes are mandatory fields on every Indian bill of entry. CBIC maintains a list of 400+ ports, inland container depots (ICDs), air cargo stations, and container freight stations — each with a unique code. Using a wrong port code causes BoE filing errors and delays.
Port Code Structure — India
Indian port codes follow the UN/LOCODE format: IN + 3-character location code + facility digit
IN— country code for India- Next 3 characters — location identifier (city/port abbreviation)
- Final digit — facility type (1=sea port, 4=air cargo, 6=ICD, 8=CFS)
